Effects on the brain: When one uses cocaine, he or she will experience some pleasure, including euphoria, sociability, excitement and increased energy. There are also side-effects that occur, including nausea, anxiety, headaches, confusion, psychosis, and dizziness.

They usually occur when the brain is affected and are quite dangerous. After extended drug use, one can experience hallucinations, depression, insomnia, dysphoric moods, nightmares, and sometimes seizures and loss of consciousness.

Effects on the throat: People who snort cocaine suffer from throat health complications. The nasal area is irritated, leading to nose bleeds. There is also sinusitis due to low blood flow. The voice becomes hoarse. Sore throats are common and swallowing is difficult. This is usually caused by inhaling cocaine vapors.

Effects on the lungs: Smoking cocaine makes the user suffer breathing problems. There is some residue of cocaine that is left in the lungs. It causes serious problems like chronic coughs and bronchitis. The user will have pain in the chest and shallow breathing. The lungs are damaged and can not process gases. In some cases, fluid gets into the lungs and causes pulmonary edema. This is very dangerous because it leads to respiratory failure and death.

Effects on the heart: Cocaine destroys the nervous system. Increased heartbeat and blood pressure affects the cardiovascular system. When cocaine has been used for a long time, it makes the arteries narrow; this reduces the flow of blood and can cause a heart attack. It is dangerous and can lead to death.

Effects on the skin: Cocaine is ingested using different ways. The effects it causes on the skin depend on the method used by the addict. Injecting the drug leaves open sores and marks on the skin. This can cause ulcers that destroy skin tissue. Open sores can cause boils. Smoking cocaine causes breathing problems. Some times the air is trapped under the skin around the neck and causes extreme pain when touched.

This kind of health condition is called subcutaneous emphysema. Cocaine also causes hallucination that makes the addict feel like there are bugs moving under their skin. The person scratches the skin, which gets lesions and bleeds a lot. It can also get infections due to poor health of the addict and it takes a very long time for any sores to heal.
